Head to the Hills 10 is here!

It's our 10th birthday. Want some cake? On our birthday, we're celebrating in style. How about a great weekend of hill and canyon riding in the East Bay?

Don't miss your chance to experience the East Bay Hills. If you have not read the riding tips, please do so now. This will at least tell you how the rest of us will be riding even if you do already know how to ride in the hills.

Friday May 13 (Tulip Day) - We're changing bars. Meet at Heinold's First and Last Chance located at 48 Webster Street, Oakland, CA 94607 in Jack London square (MAP IT) at 8:30PM for a beer before a 9PM departure. We'll figure out a nifty ride that will take us either through the docks or around the lake and end up at the super awesome tiki bar, Trader Vic's, located at 9 Anchor Drive, Emeryville, CA 94608 (MAP IT).

Saturday May 14 (National Dance Like A Chicken Day) - Meet at Cole Coffee  located at 6255 College Ave (at 63rd), Oakland, CA 94618 (MAP IT) at 9:30AM to join us for coffee and a pastry before the ride leaves at 10:30AM. This is the Iron Butt ride - an awesome 125-mile ride through some of the best canyon roads in this part of the bay. Don't let the 125 miles of riding scare you, the scenery will be well worth the long day ahead. The ride will take us into the Oakland/Berkeley Hills, down Skyline to Redwood Road and onto Castro Valley. From Castro Valley we will drop down Palomares Road to Niles Canyon and back up Foothill to Sunol and into Pleasanton where we'll stop for lunch. After fueling up our bellies and scooters we'll be heading to the small Livermore Municipal Airport and up into Collier Canyon, and over to Morgan Territory. BTW, Morgan Territory is awesome! The backside of Morgan territory is a small one lane road that doesn't see much maintenance and reminds you a lot of Deliverance. Morgan Territory will lead us into Clayton, then Walnut Creek.  From "The Creek" we'll head into LaFayette and Moraga, back to the tiny backwoods town of Canyon, up Pinehurst, and back into the Oakland Hills. A short trek down Sheppard Canyon and into Montclair and we'll soon be back at Cole Coffee. Although we will not be riding too fast, this is a long ride best taken on a larger scoot if available. And did I mention it is EPIC!

Sunday May 15 (National Chocolate Chip Day) -  NO SUNDAY RIDE - BREAKFAST ONLY. Meet at Westside Bakery Cafe located at 2570 9th St. Berkeley, CA 94710 (510)845-5842 (MAP IT) at 9:30AM to join us for breakfast. The food is good, the place is busy, and the service is slow. So why no ride? Well, it is going to rain tonight (nice Spring, eh). The roads will be wet and dangerous (just what we were trying to avoid) and the dirt in Port Costa will be mud. Riding in the rain is bad enough, but in the hills is just too dangerous for us to lead a group of riders of varying degrees of experience. We'll plan another ride in the fall. Stay tuned. We might even update the website. Of course, you can always join us for 3rd Thursday for a drink...
