I purchased my first bike, a 1979 Vespa P-125, in 1988. I rode the heck out
of that bike; attending many of the major So Cal rallies during the late
80's and 90's. My most notable adventure on the little "P" was a solo
trip
from San Luis Obispo to Sacramento during the 1992 New Year's weekend.
In 1993 I purchased a 1960 Lambretta Li150 Series II. The bike was
basically rolling chassis that was missing most of the body work. I
eventually bought another Series II donor bike to fill in the blanks. I
did all the body work myself and my Dad applied the paint. The restoration
was completed in the Spring of 1993. She has been very reliable over the
last few years. She's earned a few trophies and even carried me from LA to
Santa Barbara during yet another New Year's run in the mid-1990's (this time
I was joined by my good friend, Walker Wells, who had purchased my P-125).
In late 1998, after several years of faithful service, the Lambretta was
treated to a new paint job, courtesy of West Coast Lambretta Works, and an
expansion in engine capacity from 150cc to 175cc. I continue to ride the
Lambretta in major Bay Area rallies and on occasional weekend jaunts around
town.
The Lambretta shares our garage with Anne's 1976 Vespa Rally 200. This bike
was purchased from our good friend Eric Chrisman who was a fixture in the
1980's So Cal Mod revival. Eric built a fantastic scooter. His
modifications include a 215cc top-end, 30mm DelOrto carb, expansion chamber,
tall fourth gear, and a host of cosmetic improvements including a tasteful
two-tone paint scheme. We promised Eric that the Rally would be ridden and
cared for - we have done both. Anne has participated in several Bay Area
rallies, bombed the back roads of San Luis Obispo and used it to commute
from our home in Pleasanton to her job in Livermore. |
